Oprah does the right thing.

James Frey, author of the book “A Million Little Pieces”, has lately been the object of much scrutiny thanks to The Smoking Gun.
When informed of the duplicitous nature of Frey’s “memoir”, Oprah first rushed to the defense of the man, live, on the Larry King Show. I was personally angered by the fact that a celebrity would push millions of book sales, and, in turn, millions of dollars onto what amounted to a fraudulent work, then have the gall to defend the piece when it’s myriad lies were exposed.
Today, Oprah has set the world to rights, once again:
“I gave the impression that the truth does not matter,” Ms. Winfrey said. “I made a mistake.” To all of the viewers who called and wrote to her telling her she was wrong to allow Mr. Frey to maintain that his book reflected the “essential truth” of his life even though substantial details were falsified, Ms. Winfrey said, “You are right.”
“I feel duped,” she said. “I don’t know what is true and I don’t know what isn’t,” she said, before addressing Mr. Frey with the question, “Why did you lie?”
I can say this with certainty: I’m superbly grateful not to be James Frey on her couch, right now.
Then again, the lying piece of shit is going to go back to his fat bank account as soon as his spot is over, anyway. Where’s the justice?
