More thoughts on Iran
Posted by Nate under Nate
Purely speculative bullshit on my part; take it for what it’s worth (probably, not much).
So, the West is in a kerfuffle over Iran’s suspected pursuit of a nuclear weapon. China and Russia continue to make hollow platitudes about confrontation, in a transparent attempt to protect the goose laying their slick, black egg. Ahamdinejad is telling the United Nations, “piss off, infidels.” That crazy Ahmadinejad. What a character, am I right?
The thought’s just struck me, what if he’s holding the clerics who actually rule Iran hostage to their own ideology?
It seems that the clerics have always had a free ride, being able to talk about the necessity of annihilating Israel on the one hand, while propping up a so-called “moderate” president with the other (certainly, Khomeini was no moderate, but he was decades away from a nuke and therefore safe to rant about destroying another country at will) . The clerics would parrot all the anti-Israeli rhetoric they chose, while the nominal “president” assured the rest of the world that, of course, they’d never actually commit a genocide.
Now, along comes Adolph Ahmadinejad to toss all that shit out on its ear. He essentially seems to be saying, “So, destroy Israel, eh? Well, time to stop talking and start doing.” In comes the rhetoric, out goes the IAEA; enriched uranium, here we come! Express elevator to hell, now going down.
Ahmadinejad knows that Iran can never hope to win a conventional war against Israel, with itself as the aggressor. Therefore, if destruction of Israel is his true goal, he has one means to that end: Nuclear weaponry. If he doesn’t intend to make a nuclear weapon in the fastest possible time, why this confrontational posture with the rest of the world? Further, if he doesn’t intend to use a weapon once developed, what is the real point of all of this? After all, what has supposed possession of a nuclear arsenal done for North Korea? (certainly, it hasn’t even given ol’ Kim Jong a new ‘do. Wtf is up with that thing? Don King fetish?)
All of it, however, makes terrible sense if his goal is simply to develop a nuclear weapon in the shortest possible time and detonate it in Israel, regardless of the consequences. It is the genocidal war with Israel that Iran has been bloviating about for 25 years; now, they have a leader that really seems bound and determined to bring the second Holocaust to fruition. I wonder what Iran’s clerics really think of that, assuming it’s the case?
If they develop a nuke and then fail to use it, what does that say about Iran’s leadership to their loyal jihadist followers? After all, were Iran to be devastated by a nuclear response from Israel or the U.S., they’d only be assuring their own martyrdom, right? Iran in known possession of a nuclear weapon and failing to use it on the Jews would be hugely disillusioning to the batshit insane Islamic lunatic fringe. Can they afford the loss of face?
And is Adolf Ahmadinejad playing on all that to back Iran’s clerics into a corner they can’t reasonably get out of without completely discrediting themselves?
